
About FAR Originally known as the Foundation of Amateur Radio Clubs, FAR was organized in July 1957 and incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia as a non-profit organization. The following clubs became charter members:
Falls Church Radio Club
(now known as the Northern Virginia Radio Club)
Potomac Valley Radio Club
Rock Creek Amateur Radio Club
Washington Area YL Radio Club
Washington Mobile Radio Club
Washington Radio Club
Minor changes were made to the Articles of Incorporation in 1960 and the Foundation was re-incorporated under the name "Foundation for Amateur Radio." The Foundation is now composed of approximately 75 clubs and organizations which reside in Washington, D.C. and the states of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Under the By-Laws, each participating club has two Trustees who represent it on the FAR Board of Trustees, but each club has only a single vote. Along with the Board of Trustees, the Foundation has an Executive Committee, which consists of the President, Executive Vice President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary and various Vice Presidents that are appointed by the President. The current Executive Board is comprised of the following members:

Internet - W1TRT@aol.comThe purpose of the Foundation for Amateur Radio (FAR) is to further amateur radio in all of its various facets. In the past, FAR sponsored the 1958 convention of the National Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the 1962 Atlantic Division convention of ARRL, as well as various classes and seminars sponsored by member clubs. The annual Foundation hamfest, also known as FARFest, is one of the largest on the East Coast. FAR administers one of the largest scholarship programs in the United States. The Foundation also publishes the monthly Auto-Call Magazine.
